Tomb of Nuri Jam Tamachi
Makli, Thatta, Sindh

On the Makli necropolis near Thatta, a stone canopy (chhatri) marks the graves of the Samma ruler Jam Tamachi and his queen Nuri. Tamachi, who ruled in the 14th century, asked to be buried near his teacher, the Sufi saint Shaikh Hammad Jamali, and this began Makli's use as a royal burial ground. Nuri was a fisherwoman of Keenjhar Lake, and their love story is sung in Shah Abdul Latif's poetry. The canopy lies within the Makli UNESCO World Heritage Site.
